Here at the Bowmen of Walker, we see the club as a performance club and believe in helping every member to shoot to their potential. However, it is just as important to us that we give back to the community.
One of our longest running community commitment is to the local Boys brigade group. Every year we invite the group along to do a full beginners course. This gives the group a chance to do an activity which they wouldn't normally be able to do.
Several years ago after one of our members had a heart bypass operation, the club was contacted by the local British heart foundation group. Since then we regularly run come and try it day's for the group, with many of the groups members coming back every time.
We have also made ties with a local Cubs group, and as with the Boys Brigade, we run beginners course for them which helps the cubs to gain badges as well as allowing them to experience the sport to it's full extent.
In October 2011 we were asked to help out at Northumbria University where they were holding a Sports Ability Festival. This festival was inspired by the London 2012 Olympics. Northumberland Sports wanted to bring the spirit and the excitement of the games to young people aged between 9 and 18 with a learning, physical or sensory disability. Members at the Bowmen of Walker were more than happy to go along and help out over at the weekend event.
